Rotten in Denmark
Why is it that the ratings on one of my photos is 7.80 when everyone who rated it this week scored me 8 or above? I think there is something very strange going on here at Byte. I don't care what my score is, but I suspect that I too am having a close encounter with someone scoring and removing comments. I think I know who it is too. Is anything being done about this? I know several other people have already complained about this.
I hope this can be resolved.

OK, will have them check it out. Thanks for the reply. I know this has been a problem for a number of photographers who have some really excellent shots this week, and someone is lowering their scores.

I will let you know what I hear. Mostly the top ten most popular photos this week have fallen victim to this. And some members have emails telling them exactly who is doing it.

well i hope its not me you are referring to, I score by the rules and I know there have been some where I have felt my score was more in keeping with them than some of the others even if lower. I dont give out many 9s, and 10s are rare as few photos deserve them.aladyforty

Hi Lee
Whats happening is that someone is rating your photo without leaving a comment. When they do this the rating stays but there is no indication as to who left the score. This is of course against the rules to rate but not comment. So your average is actually probably correct. That said the rating given without the comment should be removed. This also didn't use to be the case. In the past if you left a rating but didn't comment then your name would still appear below with an empty comment and your score to the right.
Hope this makes sense

No, aladyforty, I'm not talking about you. As I said before, there is someone who has been lowering scores and then deleting comments (which you don't do, obviously), and it happened to many users this week. At least five people had this happen, I think...

Lee as I said. They are not actually deleting comments. All they do is open your picture, score it with no comment although the score stays and effects your average it actually looks like noone has commented. An email is also sent to the photographer to say this person has left a comment even though when they go to check nothing is there.

Matt,
Actually I know the person who has rated a picture of mine because an email came to me saying they had done so, yet when I checked shortly after, the comment was gone.
If this is the case, that people can rate to bring your photo average down and no one would know who it was since your score and name dont show up as a commenter, then we could easily have a lot of people do this just to make sure they lower the scores of others so that their own score looks higher.
btw. I rated one of your first pictures a couple mins ago lol, to see what happened. I didnt notice your score change up or down but you probably got an email saying I left a comment

Rating changes
Ruth,
The one you did it to probably had many other scores so the average didn't change enough to alter the score, try it on one with fewer scores or with a super low score. (feel free to drop a 1 on one of mine you didn't rate in the past, I won't hold it against ya
Let me know what happens, I am very curious, I am also curious as to who this person or persons is or are? I actually don't undertand why you and others don't say who they are, it has even crossed my mind that they may not know that they are doing it, have you contacted them and asked? have the moderators?
Anyway, I will talk to ya later.

As of this moment, this shot from Mikey has a rating of 6, but no comment - could this be what you are talking about.
Hope Admin can sort this.

I hope the admin is figuring out how this things happen.
Lee, I like the splash that you did. I liked it better than the splash II.

No comment yet from admin. I understand that ratings can occur without comment (which doesn't actually bother me anyway) but I had the distinct impression that it was happening in a widespread and malicious way to lower people's scores. When I noticed it happening to many other people's photos, all of which were excellent by the way, I got suspicious. I don't want to accuse before I am certain, which is why I didn't name the individual (innocent until proven guilty, right?). But others have replied offlist with their suspicions too and we are in agreement about it. This is all old news now, so maybe the problem will work itself out. My thanks to all those who replied.
brochures, thanks for your kind comments and taking a look. I appreciate it.
Lee
