POTW finalists
Could someone please get an answer for me. My photo "FLora Rosada" rated 8.8 this week and was not in the POTW finalists. I have sent pm to administrators and an email and I have not gotten an answer. Does anyone know the answer. I am totally discouraged.

Hi Pam
It is a beautiful shot. I don't think I saw it in the competition but if I had commented it would have scored very high with me. As for why it didn't get to the finals, all I can say is that admin have the final decision on the final six and it often does not include all of the top six rated photos for that week as stated in the POTW guidelines. Hopefully admin will give you a reason why it didn't quite make it in their eyes. Once again it is a wonderful shot caught in lovely light. If it were my choice then it would have been in there but thats just me and it can't be easy choosing that final six with so many high quality entries each week.

Pam,
I had a few shots that had a top 8 rating and also were near top on comments and reviews - but didn't make finals. The answer I got was that these are some of the guides used in selection, but that the admin reserve the liberty to recognize other interesting works that did not get the attention for reasons such as being new names to site, back in the pages, etc.
While I wasn't excited about the answer, I just accepted that the main reason I post is to get critical attention - and I got that even if I didn't get named a finalist.

Pam,
Sorry to not have replied earlier, but I've been very busy lately, with my "day job".
We do normaly answer all requests and issues and one I'd been looking into was an issue with someone not being able to upload photos here. That had priority.
Now, to answer your question, I think Buddy has summed it up quite well. As you know only six get through to the finals and it is not always the top scores that make it to the finals.
quote from the rules

’‚’‚…‚’‚‚ Judges will select the weekly finalists which are often (but not always) based on members' popularity ratings and comments, however, judges have the decision to include any photo without taking into consideration these scores. All decisions are final.Kind Regards.

Steven,
I appreciate your reply and I understand the rules. I guess what I wanted to know was why did you not feel it worthy.
However I am going to drop it now and just accept that it was not quite good enough.
Thank you again!

Hi Pam,I feel your pain lol
Why would a photo with a lower rating (but with many comments) be chosen for the final 6? If that's not a popularity contest...then what is?
Perhaps giving some long time members who have never been included in the final 6 a go also?
It doesn't really matter what we think/say....admin do as they please.

happens all the time, Ive had the same thing with a few of my photos. Having said that I also once got a photo in the top six that only rated a 7 (back when a 7 was considered low) all that week I was suprised that I had only got a seven but my faith in the judging was restored that week.

I think this weeks winner was a classic example. MikeyBs shot didn't come into the top twenty according to ratings and comments during the week. Admin then decided it was worthy to be in the final and it won. So Admin must be doing something right.
Well done Mikey. Great shot by the way.

Ive come to the conclusion that the ratings mean nothing at all, seems that unless your up in the high ratings up aroundf a 9 you will rarely get in the top six unless your photo is something unusal and with the extreme differences in some peoples voting scores a couple of low scores will take any chance of getting in the top six away or at least make it very difficult.

Well I have also come the conclusion that they are going to choose who they want it the finals by whatever means.....
I had a photo in 5th place with the 3rd highest mark, (tied)and I was knocked off by a photo that was in 27th place.....
I would love to know what qualities the photo had that it was choosen over mine......DOF, Lighting, friendship, didn't want me to be there?
Do not really know why we bother because it appears to me that what we rate doesn't matter a tinker's damn....
You put up your best, others think it is good and out you go and I know what the rules say.....it just that I don't think it is fair if we all rate them and in the end it doesn't matter
Perhaps we should revert to a jury selection and forget all this because in the end all you have a sour feelings.....ask me ....I know
