My Nikon D70 BGLOD, death of camera

Well I have may be the latest victim of the dreaded BGLOD, in my beloved D70.....what I have discovered online to be the "Blinking Green Light of Death". So I am wondering if other owners have heard of it or had it.

Apparently it is occuring on the earliest models of the D70, and the memory card access lamp which is usually a steady green, starts blinking, and everything locks up. Even if you turn the camera off, it continues to blink on it's own for awhile. For me it occurred after 23 months of owning it, and just occassionally, now the last few days, it is not working much at all. I was sick. But after research, it appears that Nikon will fix it free of charge, even tho the warranty has expired. So at this point I am looking to mail it in this week and it sounds like people are having a turnaround time of 1.5 weeks to get it back, for free. Looks like it is a $200 repair fee if they charged.

HAs anybody heard of the BGLOD? I was happy and surprised to find the dreaded disease when I googled it.

I've heard a lot about it. So far, I've been lucky with mine and haven't had the problem. It's not uncommon on early D70 models (which I have), but doesn't affect all of them. It's apparently a loose wire that they can fix pretty easily. For more info you may want to go to Nikonians.net to the D70 forum.

    Good luck!

Hi Jim....I was surprised that no one responded to this forum, but after 2 months you did, maybe no one has heard about it, I guess you wouldn't until it happens....

Yes I had it repaired for free by Nikon headquarters in LA. After hunting around on the nikon website, I found they had addressed the issue, and there was a repair form to print up pertaining to this specific issue. I got it back in the mail after about 2 weeks...all good as new.

BGLOD! The blinking green light of death....a catchy name...hope your camera doesn't get it!
