    Cool

Check out Sony's Cybershots. I have had great luck with these little cameras. There are many good ones on the market today, but I can personally vouch for the cybershot. It works in adverse conditions, such as snow and ice, and the batteries have good life. Check out this weeks contest area for my shot titled "Don't Slip" This was taken in 2004 with a 3.2 mp sony cybershot that was at that time, 2 or 3 years old.

I did look into the Sony Cybershots but they are a little too pricey for me.

Im looking to spend no more than $300 CAD.
compact, 4-5MP, no less than 3X optical zoom.

Ive read mixed reviews about the Kodak C340 and the HP M517 seems like a decent camera but I dont know if HP's make good cameras. If anyone has experience with Kodaks or HP's please let me know what you think of them.

    Thanks alot,
    rkhot

    PS. Great shot shootem

Some of the higher mp sony's are pricey, but see this link for 3.2 mp cameras. Even if it is an older model, I think you will find the quality better than the ones you are looking at....

look at the photos under Bugaboos - I think it is the 2nd gallery. All taken with the 3.2 mp cybershot.

I tend to take model numbers, do google searches with "reviews" in the search. Then take the reviews with a grain of salt, depending who writes them.

I find dpreview.com to be a very informative sight. And this camera looks interesting...

That camera does look interesting. The Sony DSC-W5 sells for $350 CAD unfortunately. However, I have been looking into cheaper Sony Cyber-Shots (DSC-S90), and a few Canon makes as well.

Any opinions on the Sony DSC-90, Canon A410/A520, or the Fuji F10?

Sorry, can't say yay or nay to any of those. But I do feel any of those would be a better choice than HP or Kodak.... I sure could be very wrong, but HP = printers, and Kodak = film.... Although I'm sure they will be stepping up the digital more and more...
Again, maybe do Google searches for reviews, also think about ebay - just watch the sellers score, and check exactly what they have been selling.... I've had very good luck buying things on ebay. And sold lots too!
    Good Luck,
    Carolyn

Yeah, after much reading Ive decided not to go for the Kodak or HP. And that Sony DSC-W5 was the exact camera i was looking at earlier, seems like a nice camera.

Thanks so much for your help and advice!!

I have it narrowed down to two cameras...

    Canon A520 4MP
    Sony Cyber-Shot W5 5.1 MP

After much reading i think these cameras are equally good. The only difference is 4 vs. 5.1 MP and $60 extra for the Sony. I guess the question is, is the additional 1MP worth $60?

    Megapixels

Probably not - especially in terms of print.
I have the old cybershot, and I have a canon G6. The canon G6 gives me more control, they are both for mountaineering and rock climbing (size and wieght issue) And the canon is 7.1 vs. the sony 3.2. I gotta say though - for point and shoot, I like the sony better for quality, and the canon better for print size..... Probably didn't help you much. Except no - 1 mp won't be a differnce.
