Apologies and thanks...
Just wanted to apologise to you guys for having posted images with minimal comment and response (last week and on a previous occasion)
On both occasions, one of my images has gone into the final 6 images for the week, which always is a buzz for me, and notwithstanding, is because of those of you that give great reviews, feedback and scores.
So I therefore wanted to thank those of you that always stop by to comment and rate, and apologise at the same time for not having responded.
Those people that know me here are aware that I love to comment on other contributor's work as much as I love to make you see my images lol...
This site revolves and survives on submission of images, but just as importantly, constructive critique and comment of other's work. BytePhoto is full of newbies to digital or even any photography, who are looking for comment, advice, support or constructive critique. This site is often the first site that many of these newbies discover probably because it doesn't have the 'pressure' of competing for prizes.
Whilst I have your attention lol, I've noticed the number of images submitted weekly has dropped off sharply and I've noticed a certain unhappiness amongst members of the site...I also believe this has contributed to valued members leaving...Whilst this is a bugger to attempt to comment on each of the images submitted, it's still a bit of a worry.
I personally think the rating system needs work (or reworking) and may I be so bold as to suggest that the 'final six' voting system should also have modifications to remove 'voting games' that are clearly being played from time to time. I believe this is contributory to said members looking elsewhere to submit images.
I've already suggested my own rating system (based firmly on what we already have) although personally, I still do not believe that readers and submitters of images should be eligible to influence votes and final 6 placement) I think this should be a photo judge's job, and I firmly believe :-
- That the ability to view the current status of the final 6 should be removed until that person has voted, so as not to allow members to strategically vote and also,
- Voters should not be able to vote for themselves.
Having said all that, I still come to this site and submit with a view to having others comment on and critique my images, as I do others. I look forward to this site evolving into the future.
Maybe it's time for Byte admin to elect a panel of judges selected from experienced, longer serving Byte members to select the final 6? These members would have unbiased positions. I already know of several members I'd pick for this panel.
Recently, I was enthused to see that my image 'Black Heart' almost came from behind to win POTW here at Byte. I didn't get the opportunity to thank you guys for that. So thank you.
Black Heart did win POTD (my 11th) and subsequently placed 2nd for POTM at Digital Image Cafe.
So, sorry and thank you lol
Oh yes, while i'm at it, Welcome back Mike! Fantastic to see you.
Graham
