Changing Photographs

I have no idea if there's a rule about this or not, but there seems to be an increasing amount of altering the image after it's been posted in the p.contest.

But if someone feels that must make a change they should delete the original and repost, making it clear this is a second posting of the image with changes. Some folks do that, Shaggydoo for instance always does that and appreciate it.

Personally, I think one should live with the original post, warts and all, and continue to get feedback on fixing things. That actually seems to be the most true to the intent of these site...to post for constructive criticism, absorb that and then apply what you've learnt to future images.

It has been a common practice the past 3 years I have been with Byte before many of the users here came on board for people to reupload pictures if they make modifications and say what they modified. The owners of Byte have told us its perfectly fine to do so. Its more a learning process on suggestions.
The photographer does not have to agree and do the commenters suggestions, its all up to them.
If the poster deletes the image and reuploads it no one knows what was suggested to make it better.

I agree, Ruth...I think either way works so long as the poster lets people know what was changed - and that's the key element, letting others know what they did so everyone can learn. Sharing is important.

The advantage I see to deleting and reuploading (and stlll saying that's been done and how) is that the poster can get all new ratings perhaps. I don't always go back to an image after I've commented and the thumbnail isn't necessarily going to show the changes. I'd hate to see a photo much improved yet its ratings not upgraded also. I just think there needs to be a common way of doing this.

I see what you mean Sheila. In the past if I have done it I put the word updated before the title with **'s
The thing is if people delete, I would bet 80-90% of the commenters wont go back to recomment or even remember their exact thoughts and ratings the first time.

One good thing about this site is you can edit a comment you have already posted and just make it obvious that you are adding commments and even change your rating if you think it deserves a change because of the photographer's update

You may well be right, Ruth, human nature being what it is But, if they did go back it might not be all bad if they'd forgotten what they'd said in the first place and could come to the (hpefully) improved image with a fresh eye

I hope you're having a good day., We're having a very wet and cold one here in the PNW. You should come here sometime, the Olympic Rainforest would thrill you with the photo ops. I usually go in January when it's at it's wettest but most lush.
