A fund-raising photo exhibit for the benefit of the
Community Service Projects of the Society of
Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines, Inc.

THE LAST LEAF is a photo exhibit sponsored by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists of the Philippines which will embody the talent of Mr. Edwin Loyola.

Photography has long been recognized as an effective tool for social change. On October 2005, the Committee on Community Service of the society will embark on a photo documentary project to collect women's images, voices, and stories across the country. This will include images captured of the women in a variety of setting important to them: church, fishing, parks, with grandchildren, by schools, and at work. It will also include still life pictures that embody the symbols of hope and courage. Their images and stories have been used to humanize and embody the impact of cancer screening efforts on real people and their families in the Philippines. "The Last Leaf" photo exhibit is a unique health marketing tool designed to inspire underserved women to seek life-saving screening tests.

Our mission is to reach out to all women across the country, and projects like this are an important reminder that we reach out to individual women who are important in the lives of their families, who have unrealized dreams for their future, and who have a unique story to tell. They are huge inspiration for those who work to reduce the burden of cancer in the Philippine’‚’‚…‚’‚…Ύ‚s underserved communities. (Richard Cacho, MD)

s gynecologic oncologists, we often experience a battle with hope

We hope to experience a complete resection of tumor during surgery

We hope to feel the tumor-kill after radiotherapy or chemotherapy

We hope to see the cancer go in remission, if not, get cured

We hope that our cancer stricken human being will be able to live

As gynecologic oncologists, we behave like the last leaf that clings to the bough.

We cling to the promise given by the initial remission from adjuvant treatment

We cling to the promise that the same agent will afford the same remission, again.

We cling to the promise that a second agent, a third modality, will still work

We cling to the promise that alternative medicine may work, after all failed

Then, one by one the leaves began to fall; as gynecologic oncologists, we still hope

While the last hope fall with that lonely leaf, we still keep hoping for miracles

We keep imagining the leaf clinging to the bough

We keep in mind the springs, the summers

We often however, get exposed to the call of winter.

The last leaf, with the last leaf

The cancer stricken human being and the gynecologic oncologist

The last leaf that clings to the bough.

My God promised, we’‚’‚…‚’‚…Ύ‚ll be homeward bound

    - ( Efren J. Domingo, MD)
