    Question Smart Media, Compactflash

I have only used SMART MEDIA until now. My camera accepts both SM and CF... Is one better than the other ????? Do you get better sharper quality pictures from one or the other ????? Thank you very much for answers

As I understand it, the difference in storage devices is mainly speed, how they work to actually write the pictures, durability, size, capacity and so on.

I do not think that the type you use will have any effect on picture quality. I think CF cards are preferred for speed and durability (drops and bumps). I think speed is also somewhat dependent on the cameras own image sensor.

I could be wrong on part or all of the above. I am going by memory here of what I have read....and my memory aint the most reliable sometimes. Hopefully somebody who really knows this stuff in-depth will pop in and give you a better answer.

Both work equally as well for me. The biggest difference is the SM card storage capacity tops out at 128meg due to it's design. The CF design allows for much larger storage. I purchased (2) 256 meg CF cards today for $54 US each. The planned use is for a camera that produces JPG files that are large and also can record in RAW format with files 3x as large. I can use both formats so the SM cards are there if I need them.
