Stock Photography
Hi, I'm just new and have been uploading onto totallyphotos, which I read about on this site. I have made some sales through them but wanted some advice as to wether it is proper and right that I upload the same photos to more than one stock photo site? Do you guys do that? I would appreciate some advice on this thanks.

Hi Richmond
It's OK to upload to as many stock sites as you like as long as you don't sign an exlusivity agreement with one particular site or you sell the rights on a particular image to a buyer (When selling royalty free as Totally photos is you do not sell the rights with the image). Remember you own the rights to your images so it's up to you how you market them and where. I use a few stock photo sites and sell the same pictures on each.
Cheers
Matt

thanks
Thanks for that I now get that I can upload to other stock sites, but what about the images I have sold to totallyphotos.com can I go on and upload those too?
This is a learning curve for me so thanks for the feedback.
Cheers
Richmond

As Matt_C wrote, you still own all rights to your images so can put them on to other websites if you wish. "Selling" them on totallyphotos is in fact just giving people permission to use them - a better word would be "licensing" them. So you may have given some people the rights to use your photos via the site, but you can still give other people the same rights if you want.
That said, some sites do require exclusivity to your photos, however I have looked at the terms and conditions on totallyphotos.com and they do not have this sort of condition.
One other consideration is of course that if you have some nice shots it may not be a good idea to upload them onto the really cheap sites (where you get 20cents a sale), otherwise people will naturally buy from there rather than from the better paying sites (like totallyphotos ... or if you're lucky getty :-) )
I have been taking some of my shots off the really cheap sites and moving them onto totallyphotos to see how things go. I'd rather be getting a few bucks than a few cents!

good thinking
Umm thanks Megs,
Well I hadn't thought of that. I dont want my images to be available for less on another site. No point in being my own competition. Thanks for the feedback guys (or girls), and happy shooting and selling. Any further tips warmly welcomed. Totallyphotos seems to be growing quickly and have accepted most of my uploads. They have given me some good positive feedback.
Thanks Matt_C for your advice too. I've had a look at some of your shots on the site - you have a real talent. Do you photograph people as well?
Cheers guys, Richmond

Re: totallyphotos, I've had a lot more hits recently on my photos there, but still want to increase those sales!
Richmond: how are yours going? and any tips for making those sales? (or is that a trade secret?
)

Sales
Sorry, been a bit busy recently (housewife stuff) so haven't been online.
I just checked out my totallyphotos account and I have had 5 sales, which considering I haven't been very active is great
I've seen an increase in the number of views of my images which is very cool too.
I just need to find time to get some more uploads on the site.
Hope your sales are good too,
Richmond.
