I have wanted one for so long! I am the proud owner of a new Canon EOS 10D. I have been shooting with my trusty Minolta Dimage 7Hi for about a year now and wanted to get a DSLR. I have a couple of very cheap lenses from my Canon EOS 300 days and I'm impressed with images on PBase taken with the 10D so it was a logical next step. I've got a Sigma 70-300mm which works intermittantly but will need re-chipping.

The moment I held my new 10D in my hands I could feel the quality. Especially after my Minolta. What a great camera. I've had the 10D for 4 days and I love it.

Geoff...oh no....you were producing some amazing pics with the Minolta.....you now have probably one of the best DSLR's out.....I'm looking forward to the new pics.
I have lusted after the 10D or its' little brother the 300D....they make great astro cameras.

congratulations and good luck...........by the way....did you already have some lenses or did you need to buy all new lenses also?

Is there really that much of a difference in image quality from camera to camera? I have an Olympus c740uz. I've taken shots on the HQ setting which yields images in 2048 x 1536. They seem to be pretty sharp when I first look at the images, but when I resize to 800 x ??? the sharpness goes away. I resize in photoshop and save the image as a JPEG on the highest quality setting (12). I there something that I'm doing incorrectly or is this going to be a limiting factor of the camera? I have a couple shots in the POTW and some more in my gallery. Critiques would also be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

After resizing a photo for the web you often need to do some resharpening, too.

I use the 'Unsharp Mask' for this (Filters>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask..)

In the example found here, I used, if I can remember correctly, something like,

Unsharp Mask
Amount: 150%
Radius: 0.2 pixels
Threshold: 0 levels

If needed, you may use 'Last Filter' (Filter>Last Filter) several times, until you find the photo sharpened to your likes. I think I used it 2-3 times for the above example.

Also, as you can see from the description under the photo, I reduced the quality to 9 therefore allowing a smaller file size.

Hi!

I think that when you resize an image it loses some sharpness. Best thing to do before resizing for web is to add even more sharpening. It will look too sharp at 100% but once resized it should look good. Give it a try.

With regards to quality difference camera to camera, there is a huge difference between images taken on a consumer/prosumer camera compared to a Digital SLR. Images are MUCH cleaner and have significently less noise.
