Re: Should we have a photo of the week?
That's a great idea.
IMHO it should be judged by members making comments and then giving a mark out of 10 say, rather than a poll. Debate and discussion is a healthy way to learn.
Just thinking out aloud

sounds like a great idea...
I too think that a disscussion among the members of the site on the photo of the week is the best bet but there are so many photos it could get a little hectic... but hey its worth a try right?
i think i've reached that point...
where giving up and going on...
are both the same dead end to me both the same old song

If your intent is a photography site, I thought that it's worth a try, unless there is no bandwidth or storage constraints, should keep to registered members participation only.
Just a suggestion

once the idea snowballed, can the panel of judges keep up?
I favour littlejohn's approach. It's a good way to learn and improve. But someone or participating members have to viligalant to prevent flaming.

My thoughts
I think it would be better if plarson would pick 5 to 10 pictures to be judged for the Photo of the week. It is much easier to pick from 5 pictures than to pick from 100. I also think that the judging should be left to Logged in Members. How about expanding it and from the 52 pictures that made photo of the Month, the members will get to pick the photo of the year. That would be interesting and the winner would NOT need MONEY.... Pride of the Super Photo being the Photo of the Year would be enough....

Just a little tought.
Maybe you can set a theme each week (Nature, Portret, Black&White, ...). You don't need to much themes, they may come back after a few weeks.
So the photo's are judged the same way.Greetings,
FilMar

Hey there's some great ideas here in this thread. Feel free to post any other ideas so we can finalise a POTW contest really worth participating in.
Kind Regards.

I love the idea of POTW But I would love to have a few different catagories like one of the previous posts suggested. Such as "People" "Nature" "Abstract" "Digital Art" Etc. Maybe an overall picture of the month.
