    Camera Reviews?

I have been watching the camera review section here for the last few months and see very little action. I was wondering if users often read them or look there for info?

I mean I feel it would be a valuable little tool if we would use it, but I was wondering if it was worth the time.

I mean I know I have used and own a few cameras that I feel I could write some helpful reviews on, but was wondering if it would be worth the time or not...

Would be nice if everyone here (ok I can at least dream) or at least a good percent of use would write a review on our cameras. I feel that will give new users or camera buyers a good place to look at.

I mean we all go look at the professional review sites, but its always good to hear personal use. I mean I often learn more from camera users than I do from review sites...

So is it worth writeing reviews?

Will other Bytephoto members (thats YOU ) be willing to write a review about their camera?

I was thinking the same thing. I'd love to read some good quality reviews and would promote them/link them on my own site.

My issue with a lot of the reviews on digicams that are written on the web is that they are written by people who have the cameras for a few hours/days/weeks but not by people who use them over months, day in and day out in a variety of circumstances and places.

I'd love to see more reviews by real users. Lets start a petition.

Thats they key I was getting to, I feel quality reviews are by far more important than those 1 day/1 week reviews.

Over all thought this would be a effective topic, but seems its gotten lost in the past. Maybe some more people would get interested.

I know we all spend alot of time with our cameras, and I feel the users here really could make some great reviews, but for some reason very few are intrested.

Maybe we will get some more imput here.

Would be neat to have a general format to go by that way most reviews would be similar, but lets get the reviews going and then we can worry about mastering the format.

    Camera Reviews

Well people - The top sites for camera reviews and I mean SERIOUS camera reviews, are already up on the internet.

Try Steves Digicams or DP Review

You will get all of the in-depth reviews you want (and More).

Steves get preproduction units way before they are in the stores and labels them xxxx First Look.

DPReview has the same basic arrangement -

It takes some bucks and dedication to write serious technical reviews.

Want to go a step further?

Go to Fred Miranda .com - This is one of the Premier Pro sites.

I think if Mr. Larson wanted to, he could develop this part of the site - but only he knows whats in store here.

In the meantime - This site is growing in other areas - and its just plain FUN to be part of it -

In some extend I agree with setiprime, the are a lot of good camera review sites on the net. On the other hand, if this siite would also contain good camera reviews (including pictures and technical information) it would certainly make this site more complete. Adding user reviews is not really adding much value.

I fully agree with you all hands down, it would not be a indepth review as you find at fellow sites like you listed. But the majority of these sites are doing what I would call a pre-test. Which gives a testing to dimistraight the cameras high and low points.

BUT the one thing I have noticed with alot of these reviews are they most of the time use factory preset settings (as far as image, focusing, and processing controls go).

The goal for these reviews would not be to list the facts, you can find that anywheres.

What I was more looking for was the presonal info that users find after using the camera for months. Facts and settings that may be valuable for new comers that that model or design.

Again I feel it would be hard or almost impossible to produce reviews like fellow professional reviewers do, but I was more looking for the kind of info you from long term users and such.

May such tips as conversion lenses to use with a model, external flashes and the setups. Maybe internal processing settings that work better in certain conditions. And so on...

But sounds like the group is not in it, which I fully understand there points. Just was hopeing to make it a more well rounded site and use the links and settings that were already on the site.

You might talk to P. Larson and see if he wants to open a new Catagory Called Reviews.

    1) Drop in the published data from the Manufacturer.

    2) Solicit "User Reviews". Each user review would cover "Pros" and "Cons" and a brief description of their experiences with the equipment.

    3) Include all manufacturers.

    4) How about Lens and /or Flashes Etc., Etc., Etc.

Unfortunately - who is going to report First Hand on "entry level" equipment ?? I would guess "entry level" users.

Just writing a review is a big job if you do it right.

This whole project could be very difficult to maintain on a continuing basis -

    But if you are volunteering...................
    If it moves...Shoot it.
If it Doesn't...Shoot it Twice !!
