    Question Legal Release

Just a question about model/property releases. I have taken some photos at an area nature preserve. The preserve is owned by the County that I live in. Some of the photos are pretty good and I would like to submit them to some publications but according to the Photographers Market book I need a signed release.

I have called th county and they are advising me they are public lands and therefore no release is needed.

Legally do I still need a release to comercially use these photos in publications?

If the images do not have recognizable people in them, you do not need a release. The county is correct, it is public land...NO RELEASE NEEDED!

Model Releases are a item that books and companies often refer to mainly as a legal coverup. More or less it just keeps there butts out of trouble if trouble pops up.

Over the years its important to keep up with model releases, since they can come back to get there $$$ if you get some. But most publishers only ask if you have one, very rarely do you ever need to present it.

As for property its even more rare, to the point that most dont even pay any attention to it.

More or less if its free access then you dont have to worry about it at all. Usually the only time you have to get premission is when your paying to get in, such as the case with a museum or such.

As for submission, I would say go ahead, you will probably find that its a none existing legal thing...
