Polarizer filter for OlyC750

Does anyone know the best name brand of polarizer filters for the Olympus C750?

There are alot of choices out there. The biggest thing if your looking for the best is look for a muti coated filter, this will give you a little edge over the rest. But be prepaired some of these guys can go triple digits for a 55mm.

The thing you must also realize is the quality of the glass in your camera. I can see putting that much money in one if I have a high end lens, but the 750 as with most consumer/proconsumer cameras, are not using optimal glass. Its good glass, but not optimal. So you will get to a point were the qaulity differance will not be noticed.

OVer all B+W make some great filters, but they get a little pricey. I know I have used alot of Hoya filters and have been really happy with them as well.

For the most part a $20-30 Tiffen or Sunpack will do a nice job, you will probably be very happy with it. Also if you ever break or sratch it, you will not be as upset as you would with a $100 B+W filter.

I have not used them but I have heard alot of people like the Ritz brand. From what I hear its cheap and does a good job.

Over all you can see a differance in Highend and lowend filters, but for the most part if your in the 20-40 range you will be happy with it. You can often even find nice used filters at stores, just know what your buying before you hand over the cash.

When I used the c3030 I had a Tiffen 2x zoom lense. It was ok, but Sometimes not as clear. It really stunk on my C750, so I wasnt sure about their filters.

I checked online for polarizer filters and was shocked at whole long list of them and the huge variance in prices.

I'm trying to also figure out, when do you know to use the polarizer and when to use the UV filter.

Tele-converter Lenses-
This is actually a area a specialize in, if its anything I know its high zoom cameras and teleconverters. Actually about 80% or more of my photography is done with some type of tele-converter.

Over all your right, the tiffen 2x is a entry level lens that is way over priced. It will work with most 3-4X cameras, but beyond that, its useless.

The thing to realize is with most big zoom cameras say 6-12X range are going to be very picky with lenses. There are alot still out there that work, but each lens has its pros and cons.

Heres a list of a few lenses thats worth the money on the 750...
TCON-17 (use to be a B-300) (1.7X) $99
TCON-14B (1.45X) $145
TCON-14 (1.45X) $20-60
Canon TL-55 (1.4X) $80
C-210 (1.9X) $50

Hope this helps a little on both the Polarizer and the converter.

Useing a Polarizer-
The true main goal for a polarizer is to increase to color saturation of spacific shots. For instance when doing a senic you will find that by using a Polarizer you can greatly increase the Blues and Greens with just the turn of a wrist. So orginally the main goal was to increase color saturation.

But most people now days in the digital world tend to use them more for glare reduction. So when your shooting a highly reflective object such as a window or even a waxy green leafed plant, the polarizer will allow you to reduce the over all glare.

Another thing I have found over the years the polarizer works well for is a ND filter. Most polirizers are going to slow your camera down 1.5-2 stops. With that you can add a Polarizer to the camera to obtain a longer shutter speed when needed. Say your photographing a waterfall and you cant get a slow enough shutter speed to make the water look dreamy. You can add the polarizer on and intantly slow your camera down by 1.5-2 stops.

Actually I have the
TCON-17 (1.7X) and also a Raynox 1.54 that I bought first because the TCON was still backordered for months.
I never heard anyone using the C-210 (1.9X) yet. Have you used it?

Yea I actually have alot more that, I have collected a few over the years. As I stated every lens has its pros and cons.

The C-210 is a lens that Olympus is discontinueing. They was selling it on there site for around $40 over the last few months. You can also get them on ebay and other camera stores, if your into shopping.

OVer all its has a 52mm rear thread, so you will need a to step it up if your using the 55mm ring from Olympus. The problem with this lens is it gives no useable zoom, so you have to use it at full zoom or the dreadful tube effect comes to life.

The center sharpness of this lens is very nice, probably close to the TCON-17. But the edges are softer, but not to bad. I personally have not used it on the 750, but have talked to people that have. But I have used it on my C-2100, other C-7XX series, and numreous other big zoom cameras.

ITs a very light and compact lens, that offers nice quality and alot of zoom for the money. It the closest thing to 2x that I have found that is resonalbly priced and good in quality.

Well I have to admit if you have the TCON-17 you have one of the better lenses on the market. Over all it offers alot for $99. I have never owned the Rayvox, but have used it numerous times in testing with it and stacking. Its does the job, but compaired to some of the other lens out there in the price range, I felt they did a better job.

But you have two nice lenses, hope to see a few Tele-converter shots soon then...
