    question about exif data

I'm sure this is a no-brainer for most, but I can't see a link to post my exif data when I upload photos? Why not? And how do I do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

I am a newbie so don't be surprised if my info is wrong

but I believe that the exif data is uploaded automatically as long as in photoshop (not sure if it the same in other programs) you save as instead of save for web.

Tara, you are maybe a newbie but your answer is correct.
Just one point to add, there is no exif data shown under the photo when using the new PhotoShop CS to save your jpeg pics.
    Kind Regards.

Also a newbie, but I have a USB Compact Flash reader connected to my PC running XP Pro which also seems to preserve the EXIF data.

    clarification

Maybe I should clarify.... I'm not talking about exif data from my camera, I have all that. I'm talking about the exif data posted under the POTW photos. I don't see a link to put that information in. How do I post a picture in POTW and have the exif data show when users view it?

EXIF data is imbeded into the file. So what veiwers are saying is aslong as you dont use exif-losing programs or built in file-size reduceing programs, your exif data will automatically be loaded with your photo.

So to answer your question, there is no place to load the exif data. You just have to have it included with the photo. which it should already be unless your program or you are removing it.

What photo editiing program are using using and which method of saveing are you useing?

If your using Photoshop 6.0 or above, just make sure you using save instead of Save for Web . When using Save fo Web you will find that the exif data will be lost.

To test to see if your photo has the exif data attached you can look at it in a exif viewer, or the easiest way is to open it up in your folder as normal. Right click the image (only one at a time)and click on Properties. When the popup window opens, look in the top right corner and your will see two tabs, one states general (the active one) and the other will say summery . Click on the summery tab and you should see it there. If for some reason you see blank boxes, just click the advance button in the middle. This should bring up more EXIF info than you need. If nothing is there, then you have no exif data attached.

To make this easy use a photo straight off the camera, the first time. So that way you know what it will look like. Then do a edited photo so you can see if its attached or not.

    Hope this helps

    Talking JCW3

Makes sense, that's why none of my photos have the exif data! I'm using Photoshop 7 and always using "Save for Web". Anyhoo, thanks for your help guys! I'll do it right next time...
