With the passing of our dear friend Rick.
It made me realize what byte use to be about and it made me also realize why I respected him so much.
Rick, Buddy, Travis, Ruth, Steve, Kevin,Andrew, Susan, Marcie myself ....to name a few...we were around when byte was a hardcore critiquing site... It was done with respectfully.... but if you posted a photo you had to be ready for the critiques.
As some of you may have noticed I have gone back to that style....I miss that about Byte.... I will tell you what I like about your image...... but I will also tell you IN MY OPINION, what I think could have been improved on.
Moving forward I would politely ask that members viewing and commenting on my images to give me the same honest feedback that I will be giving you.
The foundation for this site was to avoid the Atta-boys and learn from one another.
Sincerely,
Joe

Just concluded the read from Joe regarding the way the site “Critiquing” use to be back in the days which included the dearly departed Richard Cox. He writes: “The foundation for this site was to avoid the Atta-boys and learn from one another.” Of course one might question whether or not it was a site foundation, but, his point should be well taken.
We all like the “atta boy” comments which should be an intergal component to site communications. However, to learn ‘improving’ one must be receptive to the ‘critical’, constructive commenting! We all want, and need, reasons behind photo failures. Are they simply uninteresting, poor composition, improper exposure, lacking focus, etc! Without such understandings we cannot and will not likely advance to goal … that of achievement near to perfection as possible. None of us will mind so long as we remember the basic rule; Courtesy and politeness.
Herewith, an example, one which I can relate and speak to, (one that I kind of wish Joe had referenced) because it failed qualifying, but, did get the “atta boy’s!”
