Getting this voting stuff down...
Well I see there are a few readers that are thinking the same way I am and still we dont all seem to be up-to-date on this voting thing.
Would you all be up to set a general rule-of-thumb to what a rating truly means?
To give a example...
10- A photo that is publishable or worth hanging on the wall as is. Little or no compositional problems
9- Very nice photo, which is almost publishable quality, but lacking a couple valuable features. Features such as important compostional elements, sharpness, exposure, WB, subject placement, and maybe even TITLE effectiveness.
8- Again nice photo worth sharing to friends, but has a few (3 or more) compositional errors. Or an effective photo that has 1 major error such as exposure or so on.
7- Nice photo, but nothing beyond the average. Haveing 5 or more compositional errors or problems.
6- Your average snap shot, nothing fancy.
Does this sound right? If so let use know so we can start voteing together, not apart.
If you feel these are wrong or you have another suggestion post it up and so we can see. I really dont care how we all vote, just as long as we are on the same boat. I know over the last week seems viewers have been fishing on differant lakes when it comes to voting.

Interesting 'rule-of-thumb'... and a few thoughts....
IMO these guidelines help only those with a certain photographic knowledge. ie. Do all voting members/photographers understand composition, colour harmony, exposure etc..
Also, I could give a 10, and would hang an abstract photo on my wall, whereas many others would throw in the dustbin.

Having said that, sticking as closely as possible to these guidelines can help a lot for rating a photo.
There's more guidelines here http://www.bytephoto.com/photopost/POTW.htmlKind Regards.

So do you feel there is a way to get a general rule-of-thumb on what a vote worth.
I know my goal is to show my work to a mixture of photographers whether there abstract, point & shot or nature photographers. By showing photos off to a mixed group I feel you will get a well rounded review.
I know just the other week I submitted a outdoors photo of a brook trout. I have dispayed this image at 5 other websites and all found this to be a great image and felt it was very publishable. But when posted here, many of the reviewers looked at the true compositional qualitys and I feel gave me a TRUE rating.
Over all the photo was not that well photographicaly speaking, but to a outdoors group that was looking at the subject more than the over all photo, they gave a diffeant review.
So which did I like better? Well in my eyes the worst review is the most helpful since it lets me know what was wrong and how I could fix it.
Still just feel a general rule of thumb would be helpful.
Thanks for the feed back, thats truly what I am looking for...

I think your general rule-of-thumb sounds right. I have already come back to read these before voting on a photo just now

Thanks for the usual reference and I think it will help me give fairer ratings.
