    Sports/Action category

Any chance we could add a sports/action category? Seems like that's a huge area of photography we are missing. I can't figure out where else to put my photos of horse jumping. They aren't really pets. Baseball, race cars and dancing also need a place, to name a few. Thanks.

    Hi Emory,
Wish I could say yes but every category I add takes me another hour to do all the little admin processes just for the weekly contest. Right now I am up to just over 6-7 hours each week.
Most members know that we don't get paid for the work we do every week. We do it because we love Bytephoto and didn't want to see it gone for good when the past owner didn't have time like he had the first 6 years he ran it.

Also, we always place the sports entries because they most always have people, into the people category. Sometimes if the sport includes people and animal, which ever category is overloaded and the other short on an image, we move the picture accordingly to include the member.
In order to create another category, we would at least have to have a guaranteed 9-10 entries per week to be fair since the other categories always have some members that don't make it each week.

We do allow those that didnt make it into the finals to resubmit a picture in the future, preferably more than 2 weeks later just so members don't get bored to comment on the same picture 2 weeks in a row

We are already finishing up on the 2nd quarter winners next week, so if we did add another category, then come time of POTY voting, we would only have 2 pictures competing in that category which really isn't a good idea.
Right now we will at least have 4 in each category except for the b/w and the abstract category that will have 3

    Ruth,
Thanks so much for the thorough reply. I totally appreciate all the time you spend on this fun and very informative sight, so I'll almost patiently wait for another time. You're a peach.

    Makes since!

I agree with you! The site rocks and maybe someday you can get some admins to help you out so as to free up some of your time! You do a great job here!

As much as I'd like to see a sports category (my life revolves around ski racing, snowboard racing, golf, biking, and unicycling) I can certainly appreciate the reasons not to make the change.

I run three websites and I have an appreciation for how time consuming that can be. I'm very new here and I'm remiss in not stating before now how much I appreciate your hosting this wonderful site. As a neophyte in the world of photography, I find this an invaluable resource in gaining knowledge and ideas.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.
