    please can anyone tell me the differance between a standard
    compactflash and a 120X compactfash.

    The 120X refers to the write speed of the compact flash card. If the CF card's speed is slower than the camera can write, then it slows down your between-shots time. A card that is faster than the camera needs won't speed anything up. Here's a link to more info about how CF speed applies to cameras...
