Using Digital Camera for file transfers?

I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix FZ5K. I plan to take the camera to a friends house to let him get some pictures off of it that I took when we went to another friends cabin for the weekend. I was also going to give him some video files I made, which brings me to my question:
Can I use the camera as a storage device for files other than the pictures? Kinda like a USB flash memory stick? Or would that cause problems with the camera?

If you have a card reader to load your memory card into then plug the card reader into the usb port into your computer, then you could use it to take files off.
Probably not a good idea to do it continually unless you buy a special card to use only to store photos and buy another to use just for taking photos and offloading to your computer.

I did use my 512mg xd card once to quicly offload pics from one computer to another, I did it via my card reader like I explained above. I only did this about 3-4 tims so not to lose the pictures where they had already been offloaded.
After that I stopped using it that way and continued to use it as a photo card.
