If your looking fo that kind of speed DSLR is really the way to go, but the cost factor just got trippled.
I see you have listed a proconsumer camera as your choice. The S5000 is a decently fast camera, actually one of the best burst modes of the current 10x models now out. Though the noise factor is a little more elivated compared to past fuji cameras.
One of Fuji's classic Speed Cameras was the 602. Its a 3.2mp thats intropulated to 6. It has a burst mode of 5 f/s, which is truly amazeing. I actually owned this camera for about a year and found it a blast to shoot with.
The new model that has replaced it is the S7000. Its a True 6mp intropulated to the native 12mp. Alot of people states that Fuji's technology is a bunch of bull, but I have to admit it does make a differance. The 7000 is a little slower than the 602, but faster than the 5000. I think its around 4 f/s. With many other continous modes.
The king of speed in this area is the EZI. Olympus made the E-100RS about 3-4 years ago, and it was made for speed. It is a 10x image stablized lens. Its only 1.5mp, but the quality is top notch for the technolgy then and even compaired to many cameras today. It has a burst rate of 15 f/s if I am not mistaken. Trully a speed camera, that is great for newspaper applications or other small printing/web needs.
But again if speed is your goal, DSLR is really a area you should look into. But the cameras are starting at $1000, and then a lens or in most cases a few, then you have a HEAVY/BAG to carry around.
