help with disassembly of C-740
My Olympus C-740 took a nasty spill onto concrete. Now the barrel is leaning to one side, so that it will not retract into the camera body. Anybody know where I can find instructions on how to take the camera apart? I believe it is repairable, but Olympus wants $145 to look at it. I can a buy a brand new C-740 for $10 more.
Help!

As an ex-repairman at a leading company service center, I have seen similar issues with digitals. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the schematics but if the drop was strong enough to jar the barrel you probably have more issues than just mechanical. Don't waste the money to send it in just look into a new one. But if you still want to give it a try at home, most compact digitals come apart simply by removing the screws. You should see what the mechanical problem is by lining up any items that don't seem settled into place. Once you get the camera apart you will see what I mean, there isn't too much mystery on how items snap into place.
PS. If you don't have the proper size screw driver don't try to force it. You'll never be able to get it apart with stripped screws.
Trust me....
