Olympus Evolt E-500
Hi all
I am new to this. Currently considering buying a digital photo camera. I currently own an Olympus OM2 with various lenses. Was told that these lenses can be used with the new E-500 via an adaptor but the photos will not be good quality!
I am confused whether I should go for this E-500 and then buy the new digital lenses or else just go for a fixed lens camera like the FUJI F-9500 which has a 10.1 Optical Zoom and has good reviews too.
With the price I will pay for the FUJI I will get both the body and a good enough lens for all occassions, unlike the Olympus where I need to spend a fortune on lenses!!
Any suggestions, anyone please?

I can't help you with your choice here, but I have the E-300 with the OLY adaptor and using an old Tamron 80-210mm I'm quite satisfied with the results.

Great shot Stephen
I don't have any old OM lenses myself but I've seen plenty of superb quality photos using them on an E300 and the E1. The E500 is a superb camera and still very new but I see no reason why the results wouldn't be equal if not better.

That's a really nice photo there! Thanks for the info. I think I will give the E-500 a go and I might at least try and get 1 digital lens, maybe the 14.45 or the 14.54 just to experiment with the difference to my OM lenses.
So do you all agree that the E-500 is a better deal than the FUJI S9500/S9000?
Thanks.

I don't know anything about the Fuji I'm afraid but I do know the E500 is exceptional value for money. Heres a link to a review.

You may be able to look at the other reviews on the site for some info on the Fuji. To use your OM lenses you will need the OM adapter. Olympus were giving this away free some time ago to anyone with OM lenses but I'm not sure if that is still the case.
One thing I would advise is to take a trip to the camera store and try the various cameras in your hand before buying. Get a feel for their weight and ergonomics, it may influence your decision.

I'm researching the E-500 too. For not a whole lot more than the single lens package you can get the two lens kit. Somewhere around $100 mor depending on where you shop.
I hear this is a superb camera. I have an Olympus 5050 now and really like it but I want to get into a DSLR - although I don't know how I think I can afford extra lenses!

Hi Sheila
If you do decide on the E500 and are concerned about money for extra lenses then it's probably a good idea to go for the two lense kit if you can rustle up the extra cash. It will give you the equivalent in 35mm terms of 28mm - 300mm due to the x2 crop factor with just two lenses. That should keep you happy for some time. Also as far as budget lenses go they both give superb results.
Hope this helps
