No Power

My son has a Olympus D-540 digital. As I was taking a picture the screen flashed white and then the camera lost all power. A battery change did not fix. Does anyone have a clue as to what happened and if it is fixable or even worth fixing?

I did a Google search and found that the camera has high battery consumption like the following:

"My one beef is the battery life. I have since read a couple of reviews that claim the 'low battery' indicator comes on too soon. If you're clicking like crazy and using the LCD screen, it will drop quite quickly. I tend to set up my shot with the viewfinder, use the screen to double check the framing then turn it off and shoot."

Some people have gone to lithium batteries.

Thanks for the reply. Dead batteries were the first thing I checked. I have rechargeable's and before I went outside to take pictues I put fully charged ones in.

I too have been reading everything I can on this camera and one review said it was very fragile. I don't remember dropping it but it may have been bumped. I also read another post where a "fuse" had gone bad in a camera of another brand and the way the screen flashed I'm leaning toward this being the problem.

Either way I have the feeling that it's not worth the price of a fix. So now I need to pay my son back and seeing that I'm addidicted to the digital photography I need to invest in another camera! lol

I don't know what your budget is but the Nikon d-70 seems to very popular and very capable.

Budget is limited as my son plays travel hockey (as if you couldn't guess) and I'm a single mom. I will check both of them out though, expecially the Fuiji seeing that I have an 256 MB XD card already. It may be something I can plan on for next years tax return.
