olympus C-3000 zoom card problems

Hey sup, this is my first post to this forum. I recently got my dads olympus 3000 zoom camera. It takes great picutres and stuff, but periodicaly I have trouble with the smartmedia card reading on it. Now, no card seems to work. I try and format the 128mb smartmedia card I have, and the 16mb smartmedia card in my camera and it doenst work. I was told that you can not format it without being in the camera? Because a replacement for this camera is around 150+.... I was wondering if anybody had a similar problem more a good solutions. Thanks alot.

Hey, this is also my first posting, and I am having a simular problem with the same camera type. When I place the card in the camera, I get the No Card message. When I use the card in a multicard reader I can view all the images. Since the camera is not detecting a card, i can not attempt to format it.

I have Olympus C300 Zoom and C4000 Zoom and had the Card Error on both of them. Sent the C3000 to Olympus foir repair, they wanted $200 si I had it returned unrepaired. Talking to an Olympus tech rep he said the problem was the card, not the camera.
I formatted thecard twice in my Kodak Multi card reader and reinstalled it, no luck. Did it again and reinserted the card and when I turned the camera on I switched to the manual mode setting and suddenly everything worked, I formatted the card and from that point on everything worked in all modes, same for the C4000 Zoom. Who knows why, they are both working fine now, two months later.

Olympus had repaired the C3000 Zoom for the same problem 18 months earlier.
