    help...please - nikon 4300

i just got a coolpix 4300 - xmas gift here early and i had to open to check it out. got it mail order cheap, buuut, i look into the lens and it seems broken, in fact i am pretty sure something is broken. its a dark grey lens of sorts. i was soo worried it would not work but it takes pictures just fine? my pictures (took 6) were takin with auto mode, in low light with the flash. they look awesome, no dead pixels etc. wtf? do i have a problem or not?

help i need to know now - if i need to send it back etc arrrrg

Well I dont blam you for checking it out, actually I would HIGHLY recomend it.

Why do you feel its broke? Are you seeing loose parts are broken glass?

As far as the dark gray your seeing, I would guess thats actually part of the zoom lens. But its hard to say with out a better discription.

Can you take a photo looking into a mirror to show use the problem?

6 photos is a good sign that its working fine. But I will admit now is the time to test, not after christmas. If Santa does not mind, I would run a few test and make sure its OK.

ok i got a close up - smallest pic i can get (havent loaded the software yet is 192 KB

i see what i think is supposed to be a curved grey lens, on the very inside, and it appears to be broken. i can see small pieces of grey material inside...

I don’‚’‚…‚’‚…Ύ‚t see how the lens itself could be broken and still take the photo you posted..

But by all means if there is something ’‚’‚…‚’‚Ή¦‚“loose’‚’‚…‚’‚…Ύ‚ floating around when you look into it ’‚’‚…‚’‚‚¦ I’‚’‚…‚’‚…Ύ‚d think it best to return it for a replacement ..

i have no clue - it focuses alot - but i think thats normal? when i go from off to on while looking at it from the front it goes from closed, like grey lens thing all around (albeit broken) to a hole opening up in the middle of the broken stuff... i can see around the grey area down into the camera...to dark to see anything though... nothing seems to move round but there looks like some small broken pieces..

when i go from wide to telephoto the hole in the middle grows, and i can see the broken pieces moving around...and after a few seconds of inactivity it closes...but there is still a busted piece..grrrrr
