Nikon d90
My husband got me a Nikon D90 for Xmas this year. To any of you who are familiar with Nikon (I have always & still use Fuji Finepix).....When I focus and try to take a shot, The camera won't take the image.
I am reading the book/manual but havent found why this is happening.
Any one have a answer or clue for me?

Hi Marcie, congrats on your new camera
Sounds like you did the same thing as I did with my D300 a couple weeks after I had it
There is a button that I think should be in the front left side of the camera. If you accidentally hit it, it puts the camera into manual focus and not auto focus.
My camera is downstairs at the moment, so I can't double check to see what letter is on it.
I had done the same thing but luckily it was in front of a photographer friend of mine who also had a Nikon and he immediately looked at my camera and said, yep, you hit the button.
Its in a place that you can easily hit it without knowing it.
Let me know if that's it

I was switching back & forth from manual focus & auto. But it has done it when I wasn't changing that setting. The only time my fujis do that is when it's catching up to the memory card. This wasn't (I hope....after one shot ) what I thought was happening. Missed some Great dear shots yesterday. Booooo (;-(

I just thought of something else Marcie, On the front left of the camera, you will see a switch button than can change from C, S, M
M is manual, forget at the moment was C & S actually stand for, but I know if I keep mine on C, the photo won't take unless the camera focuses in on the subject.Pbase.com/ReflectionsbyRuth

Yes, what Ruth said about the csm switch is correct, and one of the few gripes I have with my D200, too easy to accidently set to manual or even between settings which apparently disengages the AF. Also, sometimes they won't focus in low light, so they won't expose.
I've also had a problem with my 28-70 when either the aperture lock is not fully engaged on the lens, or the lens is not seated correctly. Sometimes if you take the lens off then put it back on it solves the problem. Enjoy the D90, it's a great camera.jim pope

You were right. ...I feel "DUH". LOL. There are 2 different switches to change from manual to auto.....the button/switch was right where you said it was. Am just now learning Nikon functions. .....same as Fuji just located in all different menu formats & locations. I am use to changing everything on the fly without having to look at the camera. I'm. Saving my S3 Pro for wedding's etc. It has shot over. ....! 300,000 images. The D90 has the same CMOS & basics as the D200.

glad you figured it out
I think no matter how much we think we know about our cameras, there is always another new way of getting around we can learn
