Lens Compatibility Chart

Hello Everyone,
I am very new to camera specially DSLR's, i own a Nikon D40, i am thinking about buying a zoom lens 200f or 300f, what i am confused is i downloaded a .pdf "Camera and Lenses compatibility chart"

over there they has listed all the DSLR's in the TOP and all Len's in the RIGHT and it seems that all lens fits in all camera only some functions like autofocus etc will not work in all models. Am i reading it correctly??

That looks to be what it's saying to me, but I don't shoot Nikon, so I can't give you a 100% confidence answer. Looks like you may not be able to use the camera's metering system, however, but I'm not sure exactly which lens you're looking at to be certain.

There is a list of lenses at the bottom of the pdf that absolutely cannot be used; I'd make sure that the lenses you're looking at don't fall into any of those.

Don't know about the return policy that shops in my place offers, i did not check any shops so far. I just found a 2nd hand Minolta 80 200f lens, will that lens fit in D40?
