    Coolpix 5700 problem

My coolpix 5700 no longer shows an image through the lens viewers. When a picture is taken, the image is listed in the memory chip but appears in black. Yet if I install a memory chip with prior saced pictures, the camera displays the picture. The camera travels a lot and I use it a lot to document ministry projects. With my wedding approaching I was preparing the camera and was surprised by this problem. I was wondering if I messed up a setting that caused the blanks. Appreciate any advice or suggestions from the community. Peace.

I have the same camera as you but never had that problem before.

I'd probably try a newly formatted Compact Flash card and see if that has any effect.

The other thing I would is try doing a master reset to set everything back to default. Hopefully this will help.

Let us know if get it working.

    Coolpix 5700 problem

Thanks for the advice. Master reset does not clear the problem. Here is what Nikon said: It has come to our attention that in a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ digital cameras, an electronic component may, in some instances, fail affecting your camera's performance and/or operability.

While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

    Peace,

I probably should have mentioned that I had a few dead pixels on mine when I purchased it recently and returned it to our Nikon Distributor here in Australia and they replaced the the image sensor for free. It's well worth doing however, you probably won't have a camera for anything up to 6 weeks which was a bit of struggle for me.

I just discovered, sadly, exactly the same problem. Apparently, we should contact Nikon. Hate to lose this camera. Fine lens.

I had this exact same problem with my own 5700, after a little forum research i found that it was a problem with some of the microchips installed in a limited number of COOLPIX 3100's, 5700's. Fortunately Nikon have offered to service and repair these cameras free of charge if found to have this problem.

More information can be found here..

My own problem was that i could not find an international service advisory return form. However a quick telephone call to a Genuine Nikon Dealer/Specialist/Repairer in my country of residence confirmed that if my camera suffered this problem he could indeed fix it for free (minus carriage costs which i covered)

Best of luck to anyone who has this problem, hope you get snapping again soon.
