D70 White Balance
Hi I've got a D70 camera and I was wondering if anyone else with one found the white balance a bit hard to control in the usual settings on the camera ie. using cloudy, shade etc ?
I find it particularly untrue when using it on cloudy especially in places with lots of greenery and trees, I always get a pinkish cast on the pics, if I leave it in auto it just looks washed out altogether.
I would appreciate any feedback from anyone using the D70.
Apart from that I like the camera although my hubby uses Canon camera's so I was thinking of changing to Canon for the simple reason we can then share lenses, making lens buying a little less expensive. I would appreciate any ideas on what Canon would be as good as the D70 I was thinking of maybe a 10D ?? any suggestions ??
Many thanks
Heather

If you want to swich to Canon, I'd recommend the 20D or Rebel XT. I have used both and like them very much. As for the 10D, I don't know if you can still get a new one, I believe it's been discontinued for quite some time now.

Hi Rufford, thanks for your reply. Yes I have thought about the 20D but I'm not sure where you are from but here in the UK camera prices are more expensive then in likes of US. Say a camera in US costing $700 would be ’…’‚‚£700 here in the UK !! double the price !! not fair eh ? The 20D is still selling at full price here, it hasn't come down yet, thats why I wondered about the 10D we can still source them here. I think the Canon Rebel is mainly sold in US and overseas if I wanted one here I'd need to make a special order, they don't have them readily on the shelves.
I shall ponder a while longer perhaps someone with a 10D may read my post and give me some feedback.
As I said I do love the D70 but hubby has several Canon camera's mainly film and one digital the D60 so he has loads of lenses and it would make more sense for me to change to Canon. I only have 2 lenses for the D70. We both would like a dedicated macro lens and again that means buying 2 so you can see why it makes sense to change.
Thanks again for your reply

Heather,
I have the Digital Rebel, which is basically a "dumbed down" version of the 10D. I love it. The only thing that I have found that I struggle with is sports shooting, 2.5 frames per second just doesn't get it done. If you can find a good deal on either the Rebel (300D) or 10D, I say go for it. They're both great cameras. If you're looking for reviews, check www.fredmiranda.com . This site has pages of user reviews for all things digital. Good luck with your camera purchase.
