Anyone have regrets with nikon cp5700?

Have had the nikon now for over a month..previously owned a olympus c4000...must say that if I had to choose again I would have kept with olympus and never went nikon...it seems with the nikon its a hit or miss with pics taken..olympus always took super photoes and the nikon maybe 10 out of 100 are acceptable. Anyone else here think that they were better off with previous cameras?

Can you explain what exactly bothers you? With full onscreen controls with my Oly 750UZ, I know exactly would I make a good pic or not.

picture may look fine on cam screen..may look as if the finest pic was taken..but after downloading it to computer you find that pic is slightly out of focus or that its overexposed...never ran across that when I owned my oly 4000z...so thats why I mention my displeasure with nikon in this post

Where can I see those blured pics? Also, I forgot to mention that exif data should be available (maybe as a link) while browsing Galleries, here at Bytephoto.

Normally the bluring is cause by extending the cam to max zoom handheld....then again, the cam does produce soft pics which can be sharpened using the Nikon View.

For exposure, unless using external flash, P mode would give me the best overall...infact it's doing very well for my cam. In A and S mode...it does have exposure problem. But nothing that the Nikon View cannot handle.

Nikon View,,,never actually installed it but think I will give that a try..thanks for your thoughts cyrn..

Use Nikon View 6 which can be downloaded from web.

The editor that comes with it have a sharpening feature.... it's primitive compared to PS. But for some it's good enough.

I am sure there are or will be after hearing about the Sony f828. Or maybe they are belong in different category??

I just hope that Nikon comes up with another swivel design cam...

the new sony may be quite nice but i have seen many posts from users of the 5700 that are truly great these people manage to capture the moment and could prbably do it with any camera. someday i may be able to achieve one or two shots that are comparable but changing cameras wont be the magic cure - it is the person not the camera.

I have the 5700 and have been very happy with it. It is a camera that exceeds my abilities......it can do more than I can. There may be other stuff out there.....such as the DSLR's....but I don't need the extra capability, or expense. Maybe in the future?....but that is far off.

My only thing is maybe a second "carry around" camera like the 950 coolpix....I've seen some truly stunning IR shots with these cameras.

I don't know if I would call it 'regrets', but as I said in my reply to the post '5700 Learning', I am frustrated by the 5700's auto-focus shortcomings. I also find that when I see my pictures on my computer screen, I am often disappointed with the focus that seemed OK on the camera's screen.

I am still learning about this camera, so I may still end up overcoming these issues. But at the moment, I find myself reaching for my film camera more and more due to my frustrations with the digital.

I am very glad that I did not pay full retail price. If I had paid $1,000+ for this camera, I would be definitely be feeling regretful.

well I did pay over a $1000 and wow almost every day regret getting rid of my olympus 4000z and buying this nikon 5700 camera...indoor shots are a crapshoot...I know its contrast but wow...the olympus worked well...never took a bad shot or seldom...what was I thinking?..lol...I know have taken almost 4000 pics with the Nikon and am surprised when a few turn out...so I am looking at going with an Olympus again or even Canon..at least I knew my shots would be always sharp...as stated in lcd pics look good but when downloaded to computer most often lack sharpness..just my 2 cents..thanks to all who responded

it seems like you have tried out your 5700 quite extensively and still not happy. i have the 5700 also and there are things about it that i really like. the zoom, the evf and lcd for viewing, the variety of controls, etc. at work we bought olympus d600 and c3030. the c3030 is a great camera and takes great pix. even so, it had problems which had to be dealt with, especially in framing shots. neither the viewfinder or the lcd maintained an accurate frame pix throughout the zoom range. most times we would end up with off-center shots or find pix that should have been zoomed a little bit more. wish they updated the d600 to a higher resolution, really liked that camera.

The EXIF data is now available in the Galleries

I have a 5700, and while I am not going to say that the camera is without faults, I do believe that at the time of purchase (a little less than a year ago) it was by far the best camera for the money.

The autofocus is a problem in low light - despite the number of nikon owners who will accuse you of all sorts of heresy if you say that. But this is really only highlighted because of the ergonomically difficult manual focus.

Apart from focus issues, I really do love everything about the camera. The time to shutter release time is good, the ability to do as much manual work as you like is good. You get used to the 8x zoom very quickly and suddenly you want even more (greedy aren't we!)

My playing with the 5700 (over 6000 shots now) leads me to the conclusion that if you are setting up shots, or you are only dealing with good light, that it is an exceptional camera. If most of you shots are candid, "decisive moment" shots indoors or in questionable light... you should look elsewhere.
