Battery question - CoolPix 4300

Can I use a "generic" brand battery in my Nikon Coolpix 4300 camera or must it be a Nikon battery? The battery Nikon uses is a EN-EL1 Li-Ion Battery. If generic is okay, what do you use/suggest? Thanks. I'm fairly new at this digital camera stuff, as you probably guessed. I appreciate your help. - Lynn

I am basically wrestling with the same question.

Of course, a genuine Nikon replacement is going to cost more.

I have heard excellent reports on several generic replacements, but I have still been reluctant to buy them. You just never know what you're going to get. So, after 2+ years, I am still using the original EN/EL1 that came in my camera. YMMV

I bought generic ones before my trip to the bahamas. Even after going through the wash who knows how many times, they held a nice long charge, and still seem to do ok. Generic ones should be fine.
