Help! "This CF Card Cannot be read"
I took about 900 vacation pictures on my Nikon Coolpix 4300 camera with a Lexar 512 GB CF card with no problems. Then I turned on my camera and got this message: "WARNING! This CF card cannot be read." My question, besides what happened?, is how can I get my 900 pictures off the card? I changed batteries, but that did not help. If you can help, I would appreciate your advice. -Mizlinn

Do you have a USB card reader? If so, plug the CF card into it and see if your computer can read the pictures. If it can, copy them to your computer, then put the card back into the camera and reformat it, if possible.
If the computer cannot read it, then you need better help than I can give you.

I used a CF Card reader and was able to move all but one photo, which was corrupted, to my computer. The reader did not work flawlessly, but at least I have my vacation photos on the computer. My memories of the Caribbean are preserved for now. Thanks for your help, Tim.

Great! I'm glad I could help.
Were you able to re-format the card in the camera?

Nope, 'fraid not; I never could format it. There was one corrupt photo on the card that never would transfer and I think that is what would not let me use the card again in the camera. I tried again this morning and got the same "Warning! This CF card cannot be read." So I returned the card to the store and got my money back. Luckily I had saved the receipt. I wonder if the 512 CF card is too big for my Nikon Coolpix 4300. Do you know what the limit on CF card size for a Coolpix 4300 is? I have had no trouble with my 256 CF. Thanks again!

format the card in the computer using FAT (NOT FAT 32), then you can reformat it in the camera (unless you have a piece of crap OLYMPUS with non standard OS)
