    New Toy...

Well I just joined the Nikon group, since I just added a Coolpix 5700 to my collection.

I have been eyeing this camera for a many months and new it would fit my needs well. Its just I was not liking the cost. Now that the prices have greatly dropped and Nikon is offering that $150 mail in rebate, I could not pass it up...

I hope to have some new examples posted here soon...

Hi! I too purchased the Nikon CP 5700 during that $150 rebate period! So far I am happy with the photos. I had a Sony Mavika FD-92 before, a point and shoot camera and the photos were not very good quality. It would really help if I knew more about the camera, and I find the manual with the camera leaves something to be desired.

I am a beginning photographer at 70 years old and hope I can find a guide that might be more clearly written than the manual that comes with the camera. If you, or anyone reading this knows of a good book that would help me learn more easily, I would appreciate your advice.

Guess it just takes time to learn!

If I could recommend one thing, it would be practice. I know everyones says that, but its true. I truly find I learn more if I set out on a destination, say a day trip or a weekend trip.

Trips like this force you to shoot in all condtions, such as sun rise/set, day light, shadows, differant subjects, and so on. This will also give you time to run through differant settings and try differant features.

Sometimes you win and sometims you dont. I know I often learn more from those bad trips than anything.

The great thing with digitial is all the data is stored with the photo in the EXIF. So you can look back and find what settings worked and what did not.

The number one type of learning aid I would recommend is a local community college. They often offer 8 and 16 week long classes that force you do use your camera in differant ways. They usually close anywheres from $80-200, but you will learn a lot. You will probably find fellow photographers in the same shoe as you and some more advanced. So its a good learning aid.

You have a very able camera, hope to see some exciting post soon.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will be looking into some course I can take nearby. In the meantime I'll keep shooting!!
