Hi There-

Just an open invitation to start some threads for Nikon owners to vent their feelings and discuss the pros and cons of the Nikon brand of cameras. With so much going on in the Digital world about NEW stuff, why not discuss the good (and not so good) points of what we own now. I certainly do not encourage comparison about the best "Brand", that will never be solved, but we own Nikons for some reason.

I currently shoot with a Nikon Coolpix 5700.
I have been a Photographer / Cinematographer for many years in the Automotive Industry, here in the Detroit area.

Enough of me. How 'bout you folks ??

I use a Nikon 4500 and love its macro capabilities. Just wish I had the skill to make the most of such a great little camera! I seem to spend far too long thinking about all the settings. This comes from using a camera with virtually no manual controls before I got the 4500
I went on a one day course at Nikon HQ ( in the UK) last year.

I love my Nikon 5700...I also recently purchased a refurbed 4500 for more of a carry around pocket camera. What a great little camera. They both take fantastic shots....beautiful macros. It's unbelievable to me how well the technology has advanced.

I also hook 'em both to my telescope for planetary stuff and some wide field stuff.

Just learning with that side of it.

My biggest interest in Photography probably lies in the retouching/restoring area. I love trying to take a marginally good picture and making it "pop", if possible.

sounds interesting - how and where do you find "Refurbished" units and what is the savings factor ??

might be a neat way to upgrade later.

Initially, I wanted to buy a minolta dimage 7i but it was sold out. So I bought a Nikon cp5400 (at a very reasonable price).
This is certainly a good camera and I used it almost every day. The only 'bad' thing is that you can't mount filters without special (and expensive) adapters.

I have used my D100 for some time now. The main reason I went with nikon is that I already owned some lenses and nikon has used the same lens mount for many years so as to not make my lenses obsolete. I also think that Nikon quality is spectacular. The military uses them (at least they did when I was an Air Force Photographer), and they hold up to heavy duty abuse there.

I shoot with a Cp4500 and the Bower 2.5x extender for a 35-387mm zoom range.

I have 45 years of photography with manual cameras, this is my first auto focus. I miss the control of a manual camera but love the features of this camera in macro. The extremely light long telephoto is a big bonus over my Nikon F and 300mm and even gives me better results.

I do not like the inability to select focus especially in macro. It would be impossible to use commercially but shooting macro for fun I just throw away more shots than I ever did in film.

I still do not like the results I get with flash. Even with an external unit I have not gotten consistent exposures. The units seem to keep shutting themselves off. My next experiments is to go full manual mode with external flash. I resisted because of how slow it is to change f stops, but finally give up.

By the way I still own 4 Nikons F, F2, EM, and Nikonos; a pentax 6x7; a mamaya TLR 6x6; a bronica I have not used in 30 years; and enough lenses and assessories to file a closet.

I have a nikon d100 and couldnt be happier. I absolutly love this camera.

I am the very happy owner of a D70, and several different lenses. To me an interchangable lens system is the only way to go. The only real choices seem to be Cannon and Nikon, both of which will continue to support the platform. I am looking forward to a 6 mp + high end Nikon - when ever it may appear.

Hi Jerry, yes I must admit there are times when I miss my old faithfuls ("F" "F2" and "FE2") but times change and I have now sold them all and am now completely digital. Have even changed my allegiance and gone over to Canon! Have been messing about with cameras for just over 60 years now and still enjoy every minute. Bet that Bronica of yours still takes a great image. [F.R.]
