7 new Secure Digital I/O cards for PocketPC and Palm OS PDA
INDIAN WELLS, Calif.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- April 28, 2004 -- Pretec Electronics Corp., the inventor of CompactI/O (CF I/O card) since 1997, demonstrates seven (7) new Secure Digital (SD) I/O cards for PocketPC and Palm OS PDA at Pretec booth #IW233B of the North America Retail Vision event here at Hyatt Grand Champions Resort & Spa hotel; including SD WLAN (802.11b), SD Bluetooth, SD GPS, SD 56kbps Modem, SD Camera (VGA and 1.3 mega-pixel), and SD Barcode Scanner. Pricing ranges from $79 to $199, five (5) of Pretec SD I/O cards will be offered to retail market by Q2/2004, while VGA SD Camera will be only available for OEM customers and SD Barcode Scanner mainly for vertical applications and industrial customers.
Pretec's complete line of SD I/O peripherals complements the current line of CF I/O including 56K Modem, Ethernet LAN, GPS, Bluetooth, 802.11b, Camera, GSM/GPRS and Presenter, further extending Pretec's I/O line to users of PDA's and Tablet PC's with an SD card slot which supports PocketPC, Tablet PC (Windows XP), and Palm OS.
The comprehensive line of Pretec SD I/O also introduces the first shipping product using Pretec's proprietary and patented "Whanto(TM)" technology demonstrated at CES 2004 in Las Vegas, which allows for interchangeability between four (4) different interfacing modules (CF/SD/MS/USB), making it the most flexible solution for multiple interface PDAs. Shipped with SD Interfacing module, Pretec SD GPS and SD Barcode Scanner will be expandable to CF, MS, and USB interfaces simply by changing to another optional interfacing module, allowing users to share the use of Pretec "Whanto(TM)" IO cards for several different interfacing host devices.
The inter-changeable connection enables Pretec detachable IO card to have both face-up and face-down "mirroring" feature by users choice to adapt different brand of PDA with different orientation of CF/SD/MS slot, an unique user-friendly feature pioneered by Pretec for the ease of use and lower cost of ownership.
