OK, my vote's up. And while we're on the topic of reviving things, how about the old edit challenge too?
-
yeah that was fun wasn't it

How did it start? I forget lol
Did someone offer to be the user to submit a picture for edit? or did many people submit pictures to be eddied in one week?Pbase.com/ReflectionsbyRuth

hi Ruth - you are doing a grand job.
my vote is cast.
i think it might have been Darren who set the ball rolling with the weekly edit challenge by choosing one of his images for us to edit, which we each submitted. he then decided on a winner who who set the following week's challenge. and so on. i really enjoyed participating - good fun, it was.

Absolutely count me in but why once a month only? Why not a different challenge every week. One week for entries to come in then one week to vote . Whilst the votes are going on for the one week the entries for the next challenge can be entered. And only 1 entry per person per challenge of course.
Two options for selecting challenge themes.:
1) Winner of challenge gets too say what the next challenge is or...
2) A special thread in the forum where challenge suggestions can be posted and Ruth our administrator selects one from there for every challenge. She may of course decide at any given moment to issue a challenge theme of her own choice too.

Hi Jan,
We'll try monthly for now to see how it goes. Weekly might be a lot since we also might revive the edit challenge.
I don't want to commit to too many things in 1 week right away
Hopefully things will get better and that can be in the near future.
Appreciate everyone's inputPbase.com/ReflectionsbyRuth

I thought the edit challenge was fun as well. the down fall I think was that it was done in the edit section and we kind of made up the rules. We didn't have a way to dump the old photos to start a new week. Everything began to get mixed up. Perhaps a special section like the contest page.

Hi Kevin,
Wasn't the edit challenge just an idea from users and Paul didn't really get involved?
Any photos in any section can easily be moved to an archive area for others to refer back to later just like the POTW entries

Ruth, the edit challenge or "Editors Corner" as I liked to call it was my brainchild. This was a totally member driven effort but it would be nice to have a specific gallery for this that is cleaned out weekly. To me that's the primary purpose behind involving admin is to get a gallery that is swept out weekly. So I would ask, would we be able to have a gallery that could be clean for each week?

sure, let me work on it.
Won't be able to do it tonight or tomorrow, just found out my Mom went into the hospital and will be there most of the day on Wednesday.
What I will need from the users is what day to start it and when to move it to the archives.Pbase.com/ReflectionsbyRuth

My suggestion would be to run the Edititor's Corner the same time frame as the weekly contest. It would be less work for you because it could be done when you are doing the contest page. Plus there would be consistency in the time frames.
when Darren started this idea, it gave us the opportunity to interpret and edit how we see the image. There was more free rein as well. We did use more Photoshop filters etc. and some edits leaned towards digital art which worked in that arena.

also what i found really interesting and educational about the edit challenge was that we each posted underneath, a breakdown of the technique used for the particular image that was being edited.
think its an excellent way to learn from each other.
