    Jasc(R) Paint Shop(TM) Pro(R) 8 'a Photographer's Dream' Voted Best Consumer Software

    Jasc(R) Paint Shop(TM) Pro(R) 8 'a Photographer's Dream' Voted Best Consumer Software

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., July 28 Jasc Software, Inc. today
announced that the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Jury has voted
Paint Shop Pro 8, digital photography and imaging software, the Best Consumer
    Software 2003/2004.
Paint Shop Pro 8 combines automatic and precision photo editing and
graphic design tools with an integrated learning system to help users produce
superior results. By introducing industry firsts that streamline workflow and
simplify complicated photo and graphics techniques, Paint Shop Pro 8 makes
powerful professional tools accessible to users of all skill-levels.
To win the TIPA award a photo, video or digital product has to be the best
in its categories, be user friendly and offer smart solutions, and a good
price-value rate. TIPA awards are voted on by a jury of editors from 31
independently published magazines in 12 countries. TIPA editors judge software
on quality, performance and value criteria that are important to end-users.
"Paint Shop Pro 8 is a major upgrade of this popular image editing
software which brings it up to par with professional packages costing five to
even ten times as much," the TIPA jury said. "Paint Shop Pro even offers some
functions not found in those packages, such as easy correction of lens
distortion. That makes Paint Shop Pro 8 a photographers dream, for a very
    affordable price indeed."
"TIPA is respected as Europe's largest independent organization for photo
imaging magazines," Kris Tufto, President and CEO of Jasc Software, said.
"Having such a prestigious group select Paint Shop Pro 8 as the Best Consumer
Software validates our commitment to revolutionize the digital photography and
imaging industry, by providing consumers and professionals with industry-
leading photo editing and graphic design tools at an affordable price."

Photoshop Elements is a reasonable compromise until you can save up for Photoshop.

I have both and I say I use PSP8 about 90% of the time. I use photoshop for fine tuning.

I think that what it boils down to is how much experience and knowledge you have with a particular piece of software. The learning curve for photoshop is fairly steep so things like PSP and elements are great alternatives for those that don't have the time to dedicate.

Money is not exactly the problem. I am waiting for PhotoShop 8 so I don't get stuck with a $180 upgrade fee.

They will be announcing the release of 8 very soon and when that happens you should start seeing photoshop 7 being sold with a free upgrade to 8.
