Enjoy your new camera... I got the same feeling when I jumped ships from a Nikon prosumer to my 10D... After a couple of days I nver looked back... My old trusty CP 995 has been collecting dust on a shelf since I got the Canon 10D

Re: Canon EOS Digital
I will have to find out if 35mm lenses will fit onto the D Rebel and get back with you. As far as the "(ie f2.8, etc)? " It's also called the " f stop" The lower the number the better the lens and more money it would cost you. On lower numbers like f1.8 it lets more light in then lets say a f3.5 lens! I hope this helps if not let me know I will try to find a link that might! Have fun.............Lamont :>) Ok more info for you.........All EF mount lenses will work on the D Rebel. also If they are EOS mount then they will work fine with the D Rebel.Originally posted by SlickWill1977
What other options/features does this camera have that makes it worth buying? I am thinking about purchasing this to begin photography. Another question I have concerns lenses. Can you buy lenses for regular film cameras and still use them on this camera? What do the numbers mean when people describe lenses (ie f2.8, etc)? Thanks. Looking forward to my membership on this forum!Last edited by LEEarles; Dec 28th, 2003 at 08:58 AM.

B&W yes and no!
The Canon D Rebel does not shoot in "B&W" only color! However you can take any picture and bring it up in a program like Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro and make that color picture "gray scale" then you will have a B&W picture! As for other digital camers I dont know? On my old Nikon CP5700 it did have a setting for that to shoot in B&W. But changing color to B&W is easy and works well. Now......... as far as printing out your B&W I was using a HP7150 to print all my pictures and it was "so-so" on B&W's but now I have a HP 7960 it does a Great job with B&W's and both printers do a great job on color! I hope this helps take care and have fun. BTW Happy New Year to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!Happy New Year to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife & I just got the Rebel "kit" last month. I'm very pleased so far with the camera. We got a 75-300mm lens also. It was $240.00 US. I found a macro lens $200.0 US.

D Rebel is a Good buy
Yes the DRebel is a very good camera as far as lenes go I myself have only Canon lenes. But to have the 75-300mm would be nice. As far as the tripod goes I dont know about that one also Sorry not much help here! But if you dont have a tripod well your doing good then! Also on the filters by Hoya very very good! If you are bidding on this camera looks like it might be close to street pricing I think it was buy now for around $1300.00 for all that stuff. Keep in mind the camera kit runs around $999.00. Have fun.................Lamont :>)

EF and AF
Hi guys
As a new user/owner of the 300D the EF is a fitting denotation and as far as I know the AF lenses will fit and work fine on the EF fitting. The basic difference is that the EF incorporates a belt drive system to operate the auto focus whilst the AF uses a servo. From what I have been told the EF system is supposed to be quicker than the AF.

$$$$$
I dont know about newspapers or magazines????? But I have done 2 weddings and some other pictures. Both weddings I got $300.00 for each on and printed out 20 pictures for each one and some other things! Senior gave me $200.00 and I did some family pics too. That is where I will be going and I will also try to get into a Gallery too! I just went Pro last year it was scary at first but I just went to work taking lots and lots of pictures. It all worked out just fine. I have not put a package together of pricing as I need to do that here soon. I have 2 more weddings to do in May of this year too. Still just charging $300.00 for each one. I really think I could be getting more.
Do you have any friends or co-workers that want you to take there pitures? And want to pay you for it? Even if it's a small job take them on! Even if you charge them lets say $10.00 a sheet to print out something for them. That will be a start for you.
Here is something you might like to read about Weddings:

Good luck to you....................Lamont :>)

The famous, "How much will I make question".
I understand where you are coming from, I often thought that as well when try to deside on which way to go.
Over all there are alot of photographers that call themselves PRO (I am not one of them). So what is a PRO and what do you need to do to be PRO. Well i usually look at it this way. If a photographer is makeing 50% or more of his income off of takeing photos then they can wear the name PRO, but other than that its usually what I call a active hobby.
As for a newspaper photographer it all depends. I mean if you talking small town then you have to be a do it all. So you will probably be writing, editing, printing, and PHOTOGRAPHING. I often helped out a local news paper for fun in my home town (while I was in school) but those guys worked hard and money was not the best. I mean it was liveable but 15-20k and a lot of those guys had college degrees...
Now that I have moved I have I have seen a major differance in newspapers. The bigger citys have assigned photographers, but for the most part there writing there own storys and such as well. Pay is better about twices as much as the home town guys, but getting in is not easy. More or less the best way to get your feet wet is tell the local guys what your doing and donate some of your time. If your work is good enough, they will find a small part for you in the business.
Stock photography is where I have a little more knowledge than anything since its more of what I messed around with. The biggest key here is you need a agent or atleast a photographers business you can work under. And getting a agent is not easy, so I opted for option #2.
Prices are going to range greatly, but if your talking the cover of say a high production wildlife mag. then your looking at close to a $1000. A 1/4 page print usually gets $200 and will vary greatly. The key here is how many magazines they produce. I mean if there doing mass production then the price of the pic will go up...
It all depends on what your doing. Another method is weddings and senoir stuff. Thats not my cup of tea, so I have no idea. But usually a Senoir Class photographer does fairly well in a few hours. But you will have to be flexable...
maybe contact some of your local news papers and see if you can help out. that will allow you to talk to them personally and become friends. After all you may find you dont like it as much as you thought you did.

Hi ya Will,
It sounds like you are one busy man! And if you do get the D Rebel you will have some reading to do. As you would any camera! Out doors this can be a "point and shoot camera" but indoors it's going to be a little bit more work. One of the biggest things with any camera is you will need lots of time to play around with it , learning all about it. The great thing about digital is you know pretty much right away how your picture will look. and no film! The D Rebel is a very good camera lots of good things on it, as well a camera that you can grow into and get more goodys for it later. Kinda like upgreading it! Now about learning how to use a camera that has too many things to learn..............look at it this way if you get a camera that is not as nice as the D Rebel and you learn on the smaller or cheaper camera you will wish you went with a better camera. Just think about things you have now. Maybe a car or a computer or some kind of tool and you have said to yourself I wish I would have went to the next brand or the next leavel up. And yes I understand about spending too much money. If you have that money set aside for a camera try to wait just a little bit longer save some more and get what you realy want!
As for going Pro......... I thinks it's like a lot of other things in life. To me being a Pro is someone now taking money for something they like to do. People are now looking to you to do there work what ever that work might be from taking pictures to working on some ones house. As word gets around you will find yourself getting more and more work to do for yes money! Now dont get me wrong a Pro does not know everything about his or her Profession to me it means its going from just a hobby to being responsible for something. In taking pictures at a wedding you are now responsible for part of two peoples life's well a small window into there life and that is a lot of pressure. There will be many ways to look at that this is just the way I myself look at it. I also I think am a Pro at what I do at work and people around me think so too as I have been making eye glasses for 32 years now! And been shooting pictures for longer then that! But you know what......... I dont know it all and I will learn something new ever day about each job! I just hope I can pass on a small amount to someone else.
I know I went on and on here sorry! Take care and have fun...................Lamont :>)

Hi Will
Will
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=297501&is=REG
This is B&H Photo I have read lots of good things about them. Yes you could find some bad stuff too. But then again you can find any thing bad about anyone! I did buy a few things from them and they have always been good. The going price all over for the D Rebel with the kit lens is $999.00. I think you said your looking at the 75-300 f/4-5.6 III usm lens? If so it's a very good lens I have that one and like it a lot. Hey? Where do you live? I am in Ohio. Also I have looked at differant prices like on the 550EX speedlight and on B&H there are cheaper then the stores around me. The same goes for lenes as well B&H is sometime way cheaper! Good luck and let me know when you get your new camera and what you get with it? And let me know where in the world you live. Have fun.................Lamont
