Canon 10D focus problem

Do any of the 10D users here have this auto-focus problem which I have read about. Or is there really a problem ?

I'm interested because it might be my next camera.

I shoot with a 10D and at first I thought I might have a problem. Now I think I just wasn't using it correctly. I read a lot of posts on dpreview about how to use the autofocus correctly and that has helped me a lot.

I've recently bought the 10D, I've not noticed any focus issues... But then again, I'm easily satisfied

did you use the auto focus?

I am sure than some of the Canon 10D do have focus calibration errors. I know I was worried when I bought mine in June. I've did extensive "ruler" test and found the focus to be extremely fast and accurate on my body. I still get some focus errors when I and snapping away in a hurry. Seems that the area the camera searches for as focus lock is larger then you might expect looking at the focus points in the viewfinder (this had been reported and "documented" on other forums). One I realized how the focusing parameter works, I've had much less trouble. One thing I noticed is that with this camera's excellent low light performance (combined with an IS lens) I now try shots that would have been impossible with my Minolta S404. Most of the focus problems are related to my hand shake more than anything else. The images straight from the camera (I shoot in the Abobe RGB color space) are rather soft. However, they respond well to agressive sharpening with USM because they have such low noise.

I have read that the camera has different modes that it takes pictures in, one shot, el servo or something of the such. I don't own one YET but Like others I have done extensive reading on it. Reps say that if it is set in different mode like one shot and sports it actually has to switch to el servo to capture sports shots so this was messing up the focus on camera. So they say make sure modes match up. Could this be true?

YES, I do have the autofocus problem. Taking portrait shots from about 6' away the pictures didn't look as sharp as I expected when my f-stop was below F4. At F5.6 they looked much better.

Did some ruler tests, with my 50mm/1.4 and 70-200/4L. Focus point would be about 1/2 to 1 inches behind the target from about 4 feet away. This is significant when using fast f-stops, the DOF is very narrow.

Will be sending in to canon for calibration. Got camera for a good price from dell so I don't want to return it and lose that price. THe calibration should be easy enough.

Hi, I just bought a D30, haven't received it yet, maybe next week. Would the lenses I use for my Rebel 2000 work fine on the D30? Would the autofocus work? Would there be any issues?

Should be no problem with Rebel lenses on D30. Everything should work fine, including AF.
