What to buy, the Rebel or 10D?
I tried to compare the features of the Rebel and the 10D and could not really find out why there is a price difference of around $600 between them.
Can anyone explain to me what the 10D offers more to justify this price difference?
Thanks,
Esther

One big difference is a metal body, instead of plastic.
Several other differences are features of the 10D which were simply disabled in the 300D's firmware. In other words, while the 300D is basically the same camera, it has fewer features and lacks some of the capabilities of the 10D.

Ok, I understood the material of the body. But was hoping that this wasn't the main thing. What type of features is the Rebel not having that the 10D has? Anything serious, or?

Since I use neither camera, I'm not up on the exact feature differences. But, I read about them in the 300D review at dpreview.com. Why don't you take a look at that?

hard to say really. i've played with the 300d and 10d. i liked to the 300d's button layout a bit better....probably because i'm used to my g2, but 10d is probably all the same just as good after you get used to it (not that much a fan of that wheel thing).
they say the AF on the 300d is more accurate than the 10d....i wouldn't know...because i've heard that some people don't have the focusing problems...while some do....and then some people say the focusing problem only accures at a certain range....*shrugs*

Heyas,
I might have a little input here for you. I use the 10d and my friend uses the 300. In a nutshell here are the differences:
1. 10d has got a tougher body
2. 10d is faster on the startup and shot-to-shot speed
3. 10d has many more features on the camera and menus.
If you drop a 300, be afraid, very afraid. The 10d stands a much better chance at surving a fall.
If speed is important, the 10d is noticeably faster. If you take a lot of candids where you want to catch the moment, or perhaps you take sports shots where you want to take multiple shots and fast, the 10d is faster.
The specific functions of the cameras compared with each other are too numerous to write about here... but a rough guess is there's about 40-50 more functions on the camera and in the menus on the 10d.
Hope this helps!

I have the 300d and I do love it. I have been shooting with an eos 1 for years and was a little sad when I first got the 300d. I was sad because it just felt so different. The eos 1 is such a stout camera and the 300d just feels so light. But I have gained confidence in the 300d and hardly pick up the eos 1(anybody need a camera). If I was a pro photographer or blessed with great sums of money I would have bought the 10d. I do feel that it is worth the money if I had the money to spend on what is more or less a hobby.
so its a lite tight box, show me how the damn thing works.
