    Spot on image

There seems to be some dirt/dust inside my camera (Canon A520), and I can't remove it. I can see the spot on the display, and it appears in my photos as well.

Does anyone know how to remove dust/dirt particles from a point-and-shoot camera? I've read lots of posts about cleaning dust out of digital SLRs, but I haven't seen any advice on how to remove debris from the inside of a non-SLR camera.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give me.

I'm sorry to say that I have no idea (and I've been using cameras of this line for 4 years now). I've always viewed these point and shoots as somewhat of a closed box due to the mechanics with which the lense works. How bad is the spot? Could you post a shot? It could be that you have a "blown" sensor instead of dirt.

Your local camera shop (if they're trustworthy) should be able to give you an idea as to whether it would be cost-effective to get it checked out. Good luck!

Thanks skeuos. I posted a photo with the the big, ugly mystery spot (but cute cat) in my gallery.

    Hi Rygy,

That certainly is a distracting spot. Given the signidicantly blurred edges, I think it's likely to just be some dust/dirt that's gotten inside your camera rather than any problem with the components.

Unfortunately, that takes you back to the problem of getting inside the camera again. Hopefully your local camera shop (or maybe someone else here?) can give you an idea as to whether it's worth trying to get it cleaned or not. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

That is a cute cat, though.

Sounds like a defect that the manufacturer might fix for free. Doesn't hurt to ask...
