    Focus help

    Hi all
    I have a canon ixus65. I would like to take a picture similar to www.bytephoto.com/photopost/data/500/74511_2.jpg?4337
    but every time I try the subject and back ground are same level focus and the background is not blurred, can some one help me. Is there something in the settings i am missing

    In order to shoot a photo like the one you linked to as an example, you would need to manually set your camera to a wider f/stop like in your case f 2.9 or 3.0. I looked up your camera and it doesn't look like you have any manual capabilities. Your aperture range looks like f2.9 to f4.9. The larger the f/stop like F2.9 the more the background behind your subject will be out of focus. Conversely, with a small f/stop like F 4.9, the background as well as your subject would be in focus too.

    Another thing to blur the background is that you will have to zoom. The closer you are to the subject the blurrier the background will be. If you shoot at 28mm at F2.8 the background will be more in focus than if you shot at 135mm F2.8. So zoom out as far as the lens on your camera will go and set your apertur to F4.9 and get as close as you can get to the subject and that will result in a blurry background. It is very difficult to control Depth of field with these point and shoot cameras.
