    Canon lens IS or NOT

I've got a dilemma. I want to buy a Canon 70-200 F2.8. I'm not a pro but I should say I'm a serious amateur. Not that I always have my camera with me, but I like to have very good picture results.

What type should I buy IS or NOT IS

As a amateur, I hate to think that I will have to spend 600$ more for the IS function. Not that I dont have the money, the real question is does it worth the differnce in cost for an amateur like me ?

The type of photo I do: I like everything (sports inside and outside, outside portrait, nature, birds)

    Thanks
    Pjibe

If you plan on shooting a lot of handheld shots probably get IS lenses. I don't use IS but do a lot of tripod shots where IS is not that important. Hard to beat a good tripod shot with a remote.
