New member, New Canon D Rebel - terrible pictures???

I just purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT along with 2 lens. The Sigma 28-70mm F2.8-4 and the Canon EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 III lens.

I haven't adjusted anything in any of the menu's of my camera yet, but I'm NOT happy with the pictures that it takes with the Canon lens. I have taken about 300 pictures so far with the Canon Lens and what I've noticed is that I can focus on an object and take a picture, but everything around the object that I focused on is blurry, very blurry.

Is it my camera? My Canon Lens? or the idiot behind the camera?

I guess they got it sorted. I would have liked to know how it worked out seeing as I'm going to go down the DSLR road soon and have been wondering about lens' myself.

I went digital recently and bought the EOS 400D (Rebel XTi) because I could reuse my EF 28-70 II stock lens from my film EOS SLR. My first test run showed that the camera worked fine.

With the pro series 70-200 f/4L the images were tack sharp.

If you can borrow a Canon 50mm f1.8 prime lens, it would give you a fair idea of how the camera would perform.

In any case, if you post an image with some details as suggested previously a better assessment can be made.

    camera?

Your camera is Ok cos i have the same and i managed to get some good shots from it,when u are shooting set your camera to Aperture priority and go for the highest number whitch u can get from/f.22-f.32/this is the only way to get the sharpest shots
    OR...
forget Canon EF 75-300 and get EF 70-300 whitch is better lens or get EF 70-200 IS 4/more expensive/, which is one of the best lens ever
I don't know how good is your Sigma 28-70 but my Sigma 24-70 EX MACRO is just fine i recommend this lens to consider
and CANON EF-S 10-22 is hard to beat if u are to Landscape photography
    Good luck
