What camera for surf photography

I have been looking around for a digital SLR.I intend using it for surf photography i have a budget of about $1500 i have looked at the Canon EOS 350D and the Nikon D70.I also will need a good lense.What camera and what lenses setup would you advise.

that all depends on how close you will be able to stand and how close you want to take shots of the surfers.
You would need at least a 300mm, but up to 500mm would be fantastic but cost you close to another $1,000.
I have the D70 and one of the lenses I have is the 70-300 which really is 105-450 with the 1.5 multiplier

Its not just the camera or lens thats good for a type of photography. The photographer also has to know what the best settings to use to achieve the desired results

I'm not sure how new you are to photography... so, one good way of learning would be to search out photos online of surfers. See if the pictures have exif posted online and notice the settings used by those photographers.
Most I have seen have used these settings or close to

ISO 400
1/2000 sec
F 5.6
