Its not the DSLR that will cost you much, its the lens that you will need specifically for the low light environment. You can get away with an old used DSLR like Digital Rebel (300D) or 10D which cost under 600USD. But you will need a Fast lens like the Canon EF 50mm F1.4 which costs around $320 or the Canon 85mm F1.8
I hope this helps.

Hey there...I do ALOT of nightclub photography for www.liquidexposure.com. I use a Nikon D2x with a AF 50mm D f1.4 Nikkor lens, it's a fast lens so I have no problem at all seeing in the low lit environment! So I recommend that camera/lens combo...although the camera body alone will cost you around $5,000USD and about $300USD for the lens. Hope this helps!

mrma, you don't need a fast/expensive lens at all to shoot in nightclubs.
A cheap lens, wide angle if possible, will just do great.
I'd suggest using a good flash though. Use second curtain, slow speed, the flash will freeze the action.
I also use a D2X, but entry level DSLR with a good flash is enough to get started.

If you are looking for something really affordable and fast. I would recommend EF 50mm f/1.8 II.
It's a plastic lens, but at a price cheaper than some filters, it's well worth trying out.
As for the camera body, you may want to invest in one with low noise at higher ISO settings. Anything goes really. Again, for a low price, you can pick up a Canon Rebel XT (or 350D), as the new XTi (400D) pushes down the price of the predecessor.

yes i recently invested in this lens and it's great. i take shots at a few friends clubs nights, and they are always happy with the results. if the club has alot of disco type lights you will get some good results shooting in shutter priority (tv) set it to anything between 0.5 and 2 seconds. only negative i would say is because it is a fixed prime your feet become the zoom. this can become tricky in clubs that are quite small, as you have to get your subject to step back, or yourself step back when there might not necessarily be the room to do so. however due to the cheapness yet quality of the lens i would still get this as it is very versatile. i even use it as my walk around on occassion. oh and my body is 400d btw.[SIZE=2][COLOR=skyblue][i]Originally posted by Falcon1898
