    BP-511A Battery for Canon 20D

Hello all. I just got my camera last week. Do any of you know if I can just recharge the battery at anytime or does it have to be fully exhausted first? A friend of mine told me batteries such as this has to be exhausted first, but I went through the manual without mention of it anywhere. Thank you in advance.

I have the same battery on my rebel i think, and you don't have to discharge it completely to charge it. It's a "smart" battery. Look up that term on google for a full explanation.

    Battery for Canon 20D

You don't need to exhaust the battery completely. Actually you can use the BP11 too, which is great because I purchased 2 for my Canon Powershot G3, so now I have 3 batteries that I can use for my 20D too. The BP11 won't give you as many shots, but they're much cheaper than the BP11a at about $26.
