    Canon 300D => macro

    Hello,

    Im new here...im looking for a new camera (i now have a DSC-P72 ) and I thought about the Canon 300D! But I wanted to ask, because I make a lot of pictures of animals, is the macro function of this camera good for nature pictures? I mean does it focus good on short distances or do you haev to buy another lens because it's an SLR camera...it doesn't even have zoom so I will have to buy a zoom lens...

    Another question, could you give me some camera models which are as good as the canon 300D but with zoom?

    Greetings,
    Alex
    Get the picture!

    I have the Canon 300 and the 20 D. What you need is one of those cameras with the correct lens to catch macro stuff. I also have the 100mm macro lens for these cameras, and it is good, however, take a look at the nikon coolpix 950 or equivilent. They are renowned for the best macro in a camera with zoom. I have one and it is really great. You can take pictures within .8 inches from the subject and fill up a frame with a quarter. Hopes this helps. Steve

    Hi
    Sorry but your message is a bit confusing. When you say Animals do you mean wildlife or pets (i mean big animals) if yes then Macro has nothing to do if you are shooting from a distance of say more than 10meters. Macro comes into picture only when you are shooting Flowers, Bugs or small Items like Coins. Again, if you are using Digital SLR like Canon Digital Rebel, you can use various lenses like the Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro which give true 1 to 1 magnification. There are some lenses like 50mm Macro which give only 1/2 magnification.

    For Wildlife you wont need macro but will need TELEPHOTO Lens like 100-400mm L Lens or 100-300mm Lens. Or a POINT and SHOOT Camera with 10x Lens.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks
    Leo.
