    Canon 20D and Seagate ST1

I recently purchased a Rio Carbon with the intent to remove the 1-Inch Drive and use it in my newly purchased 20D, however when I plug the card in to the camera it reads Error CF, which I had expected, but when I go to format the card the camera blinks Error 99. I know that Error 99 is just an unknown error, but was wondering if anybody had seen this before. I also took the card down to my local BestBuy to try it out on their camera, and both the Nikon D70 and the Canon 20D couldn't format it correctly.

My other question is are these cards reliable, I'm going to Europe for 5 weeks this summer, and am purchasing a Vosonic X-Drive Pro VP-300 but wanted to know am I better off buying a couple of 2GB High Speed CF cards and not worrying about extra moving parts?

I also forgot to mention that I can use the card in my SanDisk card reader with no problem. I have formatted it serveral times, and then copied 2-3gb of data on it to make sure that it isn't an issue with the card

    Hi,

You must have gotten one of the Newer drive that had something disabled in them. You would be better off with the two Compact Flash Memory Cards. They are not easily damaged.

    Firmware number?

Is there a firmware number written on the back of the ST1?

I know that drives with FW3.04 (or above) have the Compact Flash interface disabled and only work in IDE mode (this was done by the MP3 manufacturers) - BUT I also have an ST1 (with no Firmware number written on it) that I cannot get to work in the 20D
